World Wide Wonder - Gallery Show / Print Exhibition - June to September 2022

On June 25, 2022 my "World Wide Wonder" gallery show / print exhibition was hung at the Providence Portland Community Gallery in Portland, Oregon. After a couple of delays, the prints are finally up on the wall! The show features a collection 19 expressive photographs I've created during my journeys throughout the world. Prints will be on display until September 3rd, 2022. Each piece of artwork is printed on ChromaLuxe aluminum metal in sizes ranging from 16x24" to 30x45". These prints look amazing on the wall and the vibrant colors and fine details really catch the eye of people walking through the gallery. If you are interested in seeing the prints in person, see the end of this article for details on how to visit the gallery.

Prices start at $395. Click here to contact Scott about purchasing prints from the exhibition, or simply add the appropriate size ChromaLuxe metal print to your cart and checkout.

If you can't make it to the show in person, we've got you covered with an immersive virtual preview of the exhibition, which is available at the bottom of this article.

I've spent a few hours this week hanging around the gallery and talking with people about my art and the prints. The reception has been overwhelmingly positive. It's been fun talking about my creative process and I've already made a few sales!

One conversation I had recently really stands out. I noticed a woman who spent about 20 minutes looking very closely at each of the prints. After she finished viewing the last print, I went over and introduced myself as the artist and asked if she had any questions. She immediately told me she considered viewing my artwork, "life changing." I asked her what she meant and she said, "When I walked into the gallery I was overwhelmed and stressed out (she is the caregiver for a patient in the hospital), but after viewing your art, I feel calm and relaxed." I told her the primary goal of my art is to make you feel peaceful and calm. She said, "Well, you have achieved your goal with me!" People often ask me why I create art and this is exactly why I do it. To connect with another person through my art is a very powerful thing and I cherish conversations like this each time they happen.

Exhibiting Artist: Scott Smorra
“World Wide Wonder”

Bio: My name is Scott Smorra and I am a fine art landscape and nature photographer based in Portland, Oregon. I specialize in creating large prints of my finely crafted wilderness photography. Since 2009, I have been dedicated to bringing the beauty of nature to homes and businesses through my fine art prints. My work is inspired by my experiences in nature, and I use photography to expressively communicate the emotions I feel during these outdoor adventures.

Artist Statement: Each one of my photographs represents my own creative interpretation of a memorable experience in the wilderness. The places and subjects in my photos are all real, but I choose not to represent them in a documentary/photojournalistic style. I am drawn to the beauty, emotions and moods of nature and I attempt to expressively communicate my feelings about these experiences. I seek to establish meaningful connections with the places and subjects I photograph and aspire to show why these places are worth preserving for future generations. My goal is to convey a feeling of peaceful calm through my photographs and to make the viewer feel some of that positive energy. I enjoy photography immensely and often find myself in a state of "flow" when creating in the field or developing images. The flow state is a desirable position for creatives where they are fully engaged and immersed in their craft and time just seems to melt away. I believe the best way to experience my artwork is by viewing a fine art print. In today’s fast-paced digital world, there is something special about slowing down and exploring the details of a large print. Hopefully, when you view my photographs, you feel like you are stepping out into the wilderness on your own adventure!

Featuring a collection of my favorite photographs, “World Wide Wonder” explores a deep connection and fascination with the natural world. To read my thoughts about each photo in the exhibition, and purchase prints, please see my website at www.scottsmorraphotography.com

I really enjoyed the process of preparing for this gallery show. I did find it challenging to distill down 12 years of work and create a collection that worked together visually and thematically. There were a lot of steps to consider along the way including; selecting the prints for the exhibition, mastering the files for print, having the prints made and delivered, arranging the prints for the show and hanging the show. Although it was a ton of work, I'm really happy with how everything turned out!

I would like to say thank you to everyone who shared their opinions this spring about which prints to include in the show. Hearing your feedback was very helpful and I couldn't have done it without you. I would also like to thank Seth Nehil who helped coordinate everything for the show.
