Waiting and Wondering

Fine Art Limited Edition of 50 - A beautiful Caribbean sunrise at a secluded beach in Tulum, Mexico. The colors in the water and sky on that morning were pretty amazing. Tulum is one of my favorite areas in the Riviera Maya of Mexico. White sand beaches lined with coconut trees and very few people make it the perfect place for relaxation. The 80 degree water during the winter months is also a big attraction for people traveling from colder climates. Tulum is a great place for landscape photography with the colorful Caribbean water and vibrant sunrises. ©2012 by Scott Smorra

Add a beauty and luxury to your home with a limited edition print of “Pure Imagination”! Order today from Scott Smorra’s Japanese Garden Collection. Beautiful fall colors at the world famous Laceleaf Maple (Acer palmatum) Tree on a foggy autumn morning at the Portland Japanese Garden, Portland, Oregon. Originally planted in 1968, this tree showcases the eye catching shapes and colors of the Laceleaf Maple. The first time I was able to see this tree with my own eyes, I said to myself, "How can this be real? It looks like something from my imagination!" I can assure you that the tree is real and seeing it in person is an amazing experience! Many people consider the Portland Japanese Garden to be one of the most beautiful gardens outside of Japan. If you are ever in Portland, it's definitely worth stopping by. Fine Art Limited Edition of 100 - ©2020 by Scott Smorra

Bring the beauty of Patagonia to your home with this fine art print from Scott Smorra Photography's Patagonia Light Collection. Order your print today! A leafless and solitary Lenga tree reaches towards a sunset sky filled with lenticular clouds in Parque Nacional Torres del Paine, Chile. I can imagine Poseidon hurling this tree towards the sky in the worlds of greek mythology. The peak autumn color in the foreground lenga trees and the mountains of the Cordillera del Paine (Paine Grande on the left, Cuernos del Paine on the left) in the background bring several points of interest to the photo. #5 - Eternity

Eternity

Fine Art Limited Edition of 100 - The Milky Way and millions of other stars rise above Mt Jefferson, an alpine lake and a field of summer wildflowers (Indian paintbrush and heather) in the Mt Jefferson Wilderness of Oregon. Over the past 15 years, I have visited this special location several times and have developed a deep connection with this mountain paradise. My goal with this image was to capture the feeling of solitude and unending time that I often experience when I see the Milky Way Galaxy in the wilderness. I feel very lucky to have spent a night out watching the stars in Jefferson Park in the summer of 2019. At the time, I had no idea this area would be directly impacted by a wildfire (Lionshead fire) the following year. In September 2020, are rare and intense Pacific Northwest windstorm created 50-60+ mph east winds and humidity in the single digits. As the winds intensified, several wildfires burning on the Western slopes of the Cascade Range turned into raging infernos which burned more than 1 million acres of Oregon forest in 3 days. The fires eventually pushed into several towns in the Cascade foothills which led to catastrophic loss of life and property. More than 500,000 Oregonians were displaced by the fires and it breaks my heart to think about the impact that the fires have had on each one of these people. © 2019 by Scott Smorra

Fine Art Limited Edition of 100 - The Milky Way and millions of other stars above Mt Adams and a field of lupine and paintbrush in the Goat Rocks Wilderness of Washington. This is an image from a 4 day backpacking trip in the Goat Rocks. This was the only clear night while we were out and I took full advantage of the conditions. To me it seemed like the wildflowers were all looking up and admiring the stars just like I was while creating this image. It was an amazing experience! ©2012 by Scott Smorra

#7 - Lavender Light

Mt Hood rises above a beautiful field of lavender just after sunrise at Lavender Valley Farms near Hood River, Oregon.

Bring elegance and beauty to your home with this fine art print from Scott Smorra Photography's Lavender Collection. Order your limited edition print today! Mt Hood rises above a beautiful field of lavender just after sunrise at Lavender Valley Farms near Hood River, Oregon. Photographing the sunrise at this location was an amazing experience. The sweet aroma of the lavender, millions of buzzing bees and the glow of light on the mountain made for an unforgettable morning. Lavender (scientific name: Lavandula) is a flowering member of the mint family and there are 47 known varieties. Lavender originated in the Mediterranean region, but is now cultivated all over the world. In the United States, the Pacific Northwest (Oregon, Washington, Northern California) is where most lavender is grown. There are dozens of lavender farms in the PNW, but only a few have amazing mountain views, like the one in this picture.

Bring the dramatic beauty of Patagonia to your home or office with this fine art print from Scott Smorra Photography. Order your print online today! Three dramatic, glaciated peaks pierce the sky in the fjords of Patagonian Chile. Before traveling to Patagonia, I knew I wanted to capture a photo which showcased the light and atmosphere surrounding dramatic Patagonian peaks. After several days of heavy rain in the Chilean fjords, these peaks briefly revealed themselves, giving me the opportunity to achieve my goal. This one ended up being my favorite fine art piece from the entire trip! Do you like it? Fine Art Limited Edition of 100 - ©2018 by Scott Smorra

#9 - Haleakala Kukui

Haleakala Kukui

Fine Art Limited Edition of 100 - Beautiful sunrise light illuminates wispy tropical clouds above the volcanic crater of Haleakala volcano in Maui, Hawaii. I was very lucky on this morning to get high clouds above and mid level clouds just starting to push into the crater. Driving to the Haleakala summit for sunrise is a very unique experience that is enjoyed by hundreds of people each morning. Due to the overwhelming popularity of this activity with tourists, reservations are now required to drive up the road to the summit for sunrise. Information about reservations can be found here. If you go, don't forget to bring your jacket! It's usually 30-40 degrees cooler at the summit than at the beaches down below. Haleakala Kukui means light in the house of the sun. ©2020 by Scott Smorra

#10 - Crystalline Light

Crystalline Light

Fine Art Limited Edition of 50 - Colorful clouds passing above a frozen Abraham Lake at sunset on a cold winter day in the Canadian Rockies. The ice bubbles that form in many of the lakes in the Canadian Rockies are one of the most interesting natural phenomenon I've seen. The bubbles form when organic matter (mostly plants growing near the shore) falls to the bottom of the lake. When the organic matter reaches the bottom, bacteria begin to break it down and methane gas bubbles are released during the process. These methane bubbles then rise up through the water and get trapped under the surface of the ice. As the ice freezes deeper, these bubbles become encased in the ice. ©2020 by Scott Smorra
